We humans do like to build, make and collect stuff, and all of us have to find places to keep it. For many that means using whatever space we have available as storage; in houses, flats, offices, lofts, cupboards and wardrobes.
Take the humble collector. It doesn’t matter what it is you are collecting - stamps, Corgi cars, slot cars, dolls, models aeroplanes, oil paintings, bronze sculptures, left handed cufflinks and so on, it will all need somewhere safe and secure to be kept. That’s fine if you are reasonably well off and can afford a property with a handy spare room or plenty of loft or cupboard space... But for most city dwellers, where space is premium, finding enough room can be a tricky task. So we live amongst it.
It’s no different in the workplace either. These days comprehensive record keeping is an essential part of running a business. There are so many rules and regulations and inspectors that may require a look at the books for this and the paperwork for that. Most of it has to be kept for significant amounts of time too. It quickly adds up and before you know it every bit of available storage space is chock-full of stuff.
On top of that there’s our local ‘Big Society’ including schools, community and wider interest groups. They all have stuff. From teaching resources that aren’t in use year-round, to sports and recreational hardware, such as games equipment to the everything and anything that can come with local interest and enthusiast groups.
But there is a solution that’s cheap, convenient and can create space for everything and anything that is cluttering up all of that available room. It’s called a self storage unit and is a safe, secure and private space in which you can store almost anything. A storage unit is a secure room in a building that’s either purpose built or adapted to provide useful and convenient storage.
There are a few exceptions in terms of what you are allowed to store, covering (for obvious reasons) anything that is Flammable, Illegal or Perishable. Those restrictions aside, self storage could be a new home for your pride and joy; your slot car collection, books of stamps, office archives, school teaching resources, sports gear and so on.
Storage units are priced in square feet over a given length of time (usually per week). There’s an economy of scale too, so generally the larger the unit the less the lower the cost per square foot. One thing you will need is insurance to cover the value of what you have in store, which is mandatory at any self storage facility.
Whether you’re just looking to make more room as a homeowner, free up some space at the office or looking for room for the equipment of your local interest group self storage is a helpful solution. So the choice is yours - you can continue living or working ‘amongst it’ or invest in some extra space and get yourself a self storage unit.
