When I talk to people about healthy eating. They usually tell me they eat a healthy diet. When I ask them what they eat. They usually tell me they eats lots of grains, fruits and vegetables. these people aren't taking into account the micro nutrient ratios that their body needs in each meal. They aren't looking at all at the polyunsaturated fatty acids that their consuming through their food choices. They aren't consuming healthy saturated fats like coconut oil or butter. Their consuming conventional meats which are full of antibiotics and growth hormones. They are also consuming fruits and vegetables that are full of pesticides, herbicides and fungicides. It's funny how they can actually consider their diet healthy. The reality is it's far from healthy. This shows you that everyone has a different definition of what healthy eating is. Some people follow the Paleolithic diet and consume small amounts of carbohydrates. This is dangerous because restricting carbohydrate consumption increases cortisol levels and leads to future health problems. To most people though a Paleolithic diet is the healthiest diet you can eat. The Paleolithic diet includes natural grass fed meats, organic fruits and vegetables. This does sound like a very healthy diet and more healthy than what most people eat. The problem with this is that when you consume large amounts of meats you get huge amounts of tryptophan. Tryptophan which is a precursor to serotonin will cause the body to increase estrogen levels. Serotonin will also increase the absorption of endotoxin. This will cause thyroid problems. You want to make sure that if you're eating large amounts of meats you include dairy in your diet. The calcium from dairy will convert tryptophan into niacin. The problem is when you have a fairly broken metabolism you don't absorb much calcium from your food. This means for some people for a time being they may need to remove meats from their diet. I personally have had really bad experiences with eggs even pastured free range eggs. I had terrible digestive problems and eventually switched to a new farmer that produced really good quality pastured free range eggs. These eggs came from chickens that only eat what was on the farm. The pastured eggs that I got previously came from chickens that didn't eat a fully organic diet ate a bit of soy. This is probably why I had so much digestive problems from them. Even with the new eggs from a new farmer though I still have problems with eggs. Eggs are an excellent source of protein because they contain large amounts of cholesterol and vitamin A. They are also high in selenium. You need selenium in order to convert T-3 to T4. This sounds really complicated but simplistically you need selenium in order to have proper thyroid function.
Natural meats have high amounts of cholesterol and vitamin A. They also have minerals like magnesium and potassium which are important for blood sugar regulation. Natural meats like eggs are a great source of protein. Natural meats however have higher levels of iron than eggs. Iron increases estrogen levels in the body which leads to health problems. If you're going to consume natural meats and you're concerned about the high iron levels in them it just make sure you have a glass of milk or coffee with your meat. This will reduce the absorption of iron.
Getting back to the topic through many people people perceive their diet to be healthy when it fact it's not. We have so many different diets in our culture it's ridiculous. Everyone is so desperate to find something that works when it comes to losing weight. It's not that people aren't trying it's just that people are following the wrong advise. Like I've said many times before you can't lose weight to get healthy. You need to get healthy then you'll lose weight. Eating things like natural meats, organic fruits and root vegetables. These are all foods which will help you lose weight healthy and naturally. If you try to lose weight in a unnatural way by restricting your calorie intake or over exercising. This may give you results but long term you're going to feel miserable and your going to gain your weight back even more. Becoming healthier is a lifestyle. You incorporating natural meats and organic carbohydrates is a lifelong dietary change. A lot of people may be bothered by this because they love to eat restaurant food and junk food but the truth is if you want to be happy and reach your weight loss goals in a healthy manner. You got to start eating more natural foods.
If somebody asked me if I eat a healthy diet. I would say that I try to eat as healthy as possible. When people hear this they probably assume that I tend to eat junk food once in a while but overall I eat reasonably healthy. The truth is I never eat junk food and you'll never see me eating out at restaurants. The reason why I'm so humble about my extreme dietary choices is because I don't want to allow myself the luxury of making excuses to not further improve my diet. I think sometimes people say they eat healthy when they really don't to protect themselves from having to improve their diet. My friend is an example of this. He eats a terrible diet by my standards but comparative to most people in our culture it's relatively healthy. If he admits at all that his diet could be improved by eating natural meats instead of conventional meats or including organic fruits and vegetables. Then he would have to do the work and spend the money for these foods. He doesn't want to do this so he just says he eats pretty healthy in order to protect himself from stepping up and radically improving his diet
In conclusion, I don't think that just because you eat whole foods your eating healthy. You need to be eating natural meats, organic fruits and vegetables in order to be by my definition on a healthy diet. Remember that it's not just about the foods you eat but the right ratios when it comes to your micro nutrients needs. Eating a huge amount of natural meats without carbohydrates could be worse for you then eating conventional meats with a non organic fruit or vegetable. It's all about balance when it comes to your diet and your overall health. Now when it comes to balance I don't personally agree with people who follow the belief everything in moderation. If you believe in everything in moderation then you'll eat unhealthy foods and rationalize that your allowed to do this because you believe everything can be done in moderation. Everyone likes to make excuses to justify their actions. Especially when it comes to food because food makes us happy. Eating tasty food makes us feel good. We want to make sure that we can do this without feeling guilty for damaging our health. Everyone has a different definition of health and some people eat very healthy and others don't. Everyone needs to just try the best they can to eat healthy because our health is the most important thing in our lives. Eating foods that are as natural as possible is deftly a good first step to improving our overall health.
