Choosing a child’s toy may be difficult, especially for boys. Girls are far easier to please, with endless supplies of ‘smellies’ and beauty products, candles, and huge amounts of other girly paraphernalia available, shopping for a woman is relatively easy. Boys though, especially boys that are older, are more difficult to buy for. Many choose to resort to games for consoles, but this often leads to duplicate presents, as everyone jumps in on the gaming bandwagon.

The truth is, no matter how old boys get, they never really grow up so if you’re looking for a gift that’s going to please a growing boy, or the big 35 year old kid in your life, you should consider a toy crossbow. Toys based on weapons are a big hit with boys, and ‘big kids’, but we warned, as a mother and parent you could find yourself annoyed with this toy being used often in the home.

Encourage playing of the toy to be done outside, to get them away from the console, and out of your hair for a little while. The toy crossbow can be purchased online for less than ten pounds, much cheaper than that game for the console would have cost you, and on some websites, you can get extra ammunition for that price too!

Laser quest and paint balling are still in big business, but are expensive days out, and not all families can afford to take regular trips out. This gift allows them to playfully indulge in a bit of sneaky tactical warfare and defence whenever they want, while avoiding the expense of the family day out.

The toy is safe as well as fun to use. The ends of the arrows are tipped with suction cups to avoid any nasty accidents. Make sure your family pet doesn’t become target practice, and buy some accompanying targets with the crossbow. Or, you could save empty cans, paint them, and let your child use them for some really fun target practice. If you use this suggestion, make sure your child is protected from any jagged metals. Place a plastic can lid over the hole of the can, and cellotape where the lid and can meet before painting. This will give you further piece of mind while your child plays, and encourages your child to make more use of the toy. The range on toy crossbows can reach up to 30 feet, giving good distance for a toy, but accuracy deteriorates with range.

Livening up the office with some over the desk crossbow wars can be great fun at an office party, but before you buy one for each of your colleagues, check with your employer that they agree to a game in the office. If they are not too happy about your idea, don’t dismiss the gift; instead, buy it for colleagues who you know will appreciate it at home.

If you have grandsons, and you want to buy presents for all to enjoy and share, then the toy crossbow is the ideal gift for you.
