Do you dream of working from home but have never been quite sure how to go about doing it? Have you sold some items on eBay in the process of clearing out the clutter of your home? How about combining the two to create your very own eBay home business? You don't need to be a computer whizz or a marketing expert to be a success. All you need is the drive and determination to see your personal project develop into an income stream that could happily support you for the rest of your life.

Tools of the trade

Starting an eBay home business is a very low cost endeavour, unlike many other areas in which a large expense is required at the outset. You don't even need your own website for this work because eBay provides everything you need in the form of your profile page, or eBay store page. So what do you need? Well you will need a digital camera to enable you to take great photos of the items that you are selling. You will need a computer with reasonable internet access to allow you to submit your listings. And you will need a printer to allow you to print and package labels and to keep your records up to date.

As your business grows other elements may become a necessity, such as storage facilities if you begin to sell greater quantities of products, or large quantities of packaging materials. For now however all that you need are the things that we've already mentioned.

'The customer is always right'

One element that many individuals forget when setting up their eBay home business is the all important aspect of customer service. Although people these days are comfortable with online shopping, you still need to convince them that you value them and that you are a trustworthy supplier for their consumer needs. Believe it or not, this can be achieved incredibly simply by sticking to the following rules:

- All communications should be answered within a 24 hour period unless such a response time is absolutely impossible. - Any contact with the customer or potential customer should be polite and free from grammatical or spelling errors. - Never lie to a customer to make your product sound more appealing, maintain honesty as a pillar of your business. - Products must be packaged appropriately and posted quickly to the winning bidders.

Stick to these steps and you will find your feedback rating soaring in no time. With a hugely positive feedback rating you will find it even easier to find new clientele for your products.

Keep an eye on the competition

Before establishing your eBay home business you will need to conduct research as to whether your products actually sell, but also into the competition within your niche selling area. It is important to know how many other individuals or businesses are consistently selling the same products as yourself, and the price that they are selling them at. This will help you to maintain a great level of value for money for your clients at all times in comparison with any other shops.

Keeping this information in mind will help you to set up a successful business in no time. Good luck!
