With two-thirds of the earth's surface covered by water and the human body consisting of 70% of it, it is evidently clear that water is one off the prime elements responsible for life on earth. Water circulates through the land just as it does through the human body, transporting, dissolving, replenishing nutrients and organic matter, while carrying away waste material. Further in the body, it regulates the activities of fluids, tissues, cells, lymph, blood and glandular secretions.
What The Experts Say
Without food, human beings can survive several weeks. But without water, we will die of dehydration within several days. An average adult body of 60kg contains 42 litres of water and with just a small loss of 2.7 litres, he or she can suffer from dehydration, displaying symptoms of irritability, fatigue, nervousness, dizziness, weakness, headaches and consequently reach a state of pathology. A loss of 10% water from our bodies will put our lives in danger. A loss of 20% water will result in guaranteed death. Dr F. Batmanghelidj, in his book, Your Body's Many Cries For Water, gives a wonderful essay on water and its vital role in the health of a water 'starved' society. He writes: "Since the 'water' we drink provides for cellular function and its volume requirements, the decrease in our daily water intake affects the efficiency of cell activity... as a result, chronic dehydration causes symptoms equal to disease". Renowned gastroenterologist Dr. Hiromi Shiny echoed his support: "Most of us don't drink enough water. Our cells are 80% water, and I believe almost any physical problem can be improved by drinking good water."
Good Quality Water
So, what quality is your water made of? Advances in science and technology has facilitated the production of clean tap water worldwide. But is tap water good for our health? We know that fishes do not survive more than a few hours if we put them into a tank filled with tap water. Many research studies have been done to determine the properties of water that promote longevity and health. As a result, of these studies, we can now control the properties of water to enhance our health. Likewise, studies on enhancing the effectiveness of water for cleaning and other functions also bear good results. The best of all - we can now manipulate these water properties ourselves in our own homes using the water technology today!
Eventually too many acidic foods can also stymie the immune system, inhibit digestion and contribute to things like osteoarthritis, says Lindsey Duncan, a nutritionist and naturopath. (Marc Jacobs is a client). Neither Duncan's nor Snyder's plan calls for a purely fruit-and0veggie diet, but both advocate crowding out "poorer choices" - by including a morning "green" smoothie, for example, and a green salad before dinner - and keeping acidic foods to a minimum. Some acolytes are going even further, ditching acidic tap or bottled waters for alkalinised Kangen Water, produced by water-ionisation machines from Enagic, a Japanese company that claims its water flushes out toxins better than regular H2O. The water is a hit among Hollywood A-listers, who attribute their renewed vigor to it. Carola Gonzalez, a makeup artist to the stars, invested $4300 in an Enagic machine. "My skin feels amazingly hydrated, and my fine lines are gone" Gonzalez says "And I haven't been sick once since I got it"
