Born in 1978 in Lakeland, Florida, Andrew Reynolds is a skateboarding legend who has developed several clothing and skateboarding brands and in the process amassed himself a fortune.
Andrew Reynolds was born about the same time that skateboarding was invented. Although some people reckon that the idea of skateboards was first mooted by surfers in the 1950s, fixing the wheels from roller skates only materialised in the late 1970s and has been popular with young people ever since.
Having perfected his skills since the age of 9, Andrew Reynolds at the grand old age of 31 is still considered one of the finest skateboarders on the circuit and is definitely the leading figure of his generation.
People first took note of the tall, lanky lad skateboarding with brilliant skill and precision in the early 1990s but it was in 1998 that Andrew Reynolds’ tremendous balance and technical skills were recognised officially when, aged 20, he won Thrasher magazine’s ‘Skater of the Year’ award.
Skateboarding was Andrew Reynolds’ passion but he was no skateboarding bum. He recognised in this early 20s that he was becoming a skateboarding icon and has used his immense popularity to great effect by developing his own skateboarding manufacturing company called Baker Skateboards and more recently he has created his own brand of skateboarding attire called Altamont Clothing.
For a while Andrew Reynolds went through a heavy partying and drinking phase but it didn’t last long and soon he was focused on featuring in most of the Tony Hawk skateboarding games including Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1, 2, 3 & 4; Tony Hawk’s Underground; Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground; and Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland; which were all complemented by the expansion of Andrew Reynolds’ own products including skateboarding shoes for renowned brands such Emerica.
Often referred to as the Boss, owing to his lanky body and guitar playing in the mould of Bruce Springsteen, Andrew Reynolds today is a father and a successful businessman who keeps a watchful eye on his many successful business interests.
Andrew Reynolds has moved across America from Florida and currently lives in Huntington Beach, California.
More than two decades of defying gravity and gathering awards, Andrew Reynolds is one of the most famous skateboarding names in America and a past master of a sport that simply goes from strength to strength. A giant in every way, Andrew Reynolds is the epitome of what many young skateboarders aim to be. They ride his Baker boards and they wear his Altamont clothing. Dressing like their hero is as important to the young male teens as attempting to perform some of his death defying tricks.
It is only a little over three decades old, but skateboarding has developed to such an extent that names are given to the many and varied tricks that are performed by skateboarding legends such as Andrew Reynolds. For example the Ollie is a trick that has been perfected by Andrew Reynolds for leaping over walls. In simple terms the Ollie involves stamping down on the rear of the board and then stamping down on the front of the board and in a gravity defying move, board and rider fly up and over a fence or to land on a wall. The Ollie has to be seen to be believed and even then it is an incredulous stunt.
Andrew Reynolds is utterly breathtaking when it comes to the Ollie but it is only one of many stunts that have cemented his reputation as a true “great” in the skateboarding fraternity.
Other wonderful tricks that Andrew Reynolds has pioneered include the front side flip that spins the board in the air while Reynolds is flying and the front step roll that uses just the front wheels to roll along a narrow ledge before flipping back onto the rear wheels and leaping off.
Andrew Reynolds enjoys an independent lifestyle entirely due to his innate skills skateboarding. Together with numerous awards, money pours into his coffers enabling Reynolds to rub shoulders with the Hollywood elite. Baker Skateboards goes from mega sales to mega sale and Reynolds’ Altamont brand of skateboarding clothes is proving to be immensely popular.
Andrew Reynolds is not just a name from skateboarding folklore; he is still one of the finest exponents of the sport and in the process has developed a new style of skateboard that is sold under the Deathwish brand. Fit, supple and truly brilliant, Andrew Reynolds may or may not be the greatest skateboarder in the world but he is the finest skateboarding businessman there has ever been.
A collector of jewellery and a father to Stella, Andrew Reynolds has the look of a maverick and the mind of a business empire’s CEO.
Winning awards has always come naturally to Reynolds and whether the Hollywood film star, Burt Reynolds, really is his uncle, Andrew Reynolds is very much the big star name in the Reynolds family today.
