Keywords are the cornerstone of any marketing strategy because these are words that search engines use to locate information on the World Wide Web. The more sought-out a term is, the more popular it becomes. This popularity will cause a change in the value of the information the keyword is found in.

The more valuable a keyword is the more expensive it becomes to pay for ad campaigns out of pocket that involve their usage. Typically these types of campaigns are done on a pay-per-click basis, a method that advertisers use wherein they charge a client that wishes to have their site or wares marketed for each click on an advertisement link based on the value of keywords they have bid on.

However, outside of the pay-per-click method there is article marketing. This method be used for free or it can be paid for as well. With article marketing keyword saturation, also known as keyword density, is the primary method of marketing.

Keyword Density

Search engines vary in what they consider desirable for keyword density. The density will vary dependent upon the value of the keyword and the uniqueness of the information it is contained within. Typical saturation levels that are well-received are 1 to 6%.

A percentage is basically how many times the word is mentioned in the article compared to how many words are in the article altogether. For a 500 word article to have a keyword density of 5%, there would need to be 25 instances of the exact word in that article.

Further, for SEO purposes, the placement of a chosen keyword is important as well. It is very important to spread the key word out evenly throughout the article to prevent "bunching." Bunching up keywords will cause many web crawling software programs used by popular search engines to consider the article to be of lesser value.

Page Rank and Why it is Important

Page rank is the popularity of a given page in a search engine's index. This is determined primarily by the popularity of the page in terms of visitors to that particular page location on the web. With above information in hand anyone can build their page rank to a higher level. Page rank is the way in which Google, Yahoo and Bing present pages for use by those looking for things on the Internet.

A page rank of 1 means that the page shows up on the very first page for a related searchable term. It is a proven fact that in most cases the seeker will not look beyond the first page 60 percent of the time. This goes even further down in percentage for views to a page beyond the second or third.

For website marketing it is absolutely vital to be on the first two pages of a related search. Without that exposure, locating clients or maintaining sales will be a great deal harder.
