A passion should be converted into a career only after carefully considering the minute details. Say, gardening is your passion and you are thinking of making it your profession. So, you need to consider the scale on which you are willing to do it in order to be able to provide yourself and your family with a comfortable life. You need to think about how much money there is in gardening and what the prospects are. The same is true for starting a personal training career in case you are a fitness enthusiast.

In order to ensure that you do not have to rue the decision of making a career in personal training, you need to use your own intellect and judgment in weighing up all the associated factors. Try to look beyond the clichéd statements about the prospects of the personal training industry and the rosy images presented by celebrity fitness trainers and their wealth.

A properly balanced decision requires that you consider each of the following factors before starting a personal training career.

1. Primarily you need to ascertain whether you have the inherent traits to become a personal trainer. An analytical mind, patience, persistence, motivating ability and good listening skills are just some of the virtues you need to succeed in this field. You should also have good interpersonal and networking skills in order to connect with your clients and gain their trust. Setting examples with your own physique and lifestyle may also be a part of the job.

You will be in close interaction with your clients and thus will also need to maintain a professional demeanor at all times. So ask yourself whether you are willing to make the sacrifices that will are required to strengthen your character and become a role model to your clients.

2. You will also need to get educated and certified in one or more of the many disciplines of fitness sciences before starting a personal training career. There is a lot of theory that you will need to go through in order to take the certification exams.

Even after you attain basic certification, you have to continue your education by keeping yourself updated with the latest advancements in the field of fitness. So, if you are a person who likes academics as much a cat likes to bathe, you need to have second thoughts about becoming a personal trainer.

3. Also keep in mind that just becoming a personal trainer won’t guarantee the big bucks. There is a lot of struggle involved when you are just starting a personal training career. More often than not, you will have to scrap it out with other trainers at gyms and health clubs. It will take a lot of time in order to climb your way up from the bottom rung of the ladder.

The pay might also be very low initially. In fact, figures suggest that the average income of personal trainers is around $30,000 a year only when those having their own business are clubbed with those working at gyms. So you can pretty well guess that the average figure for personal trainers starting out on their careers is much lower.

If you are determined and focused, then you can overcome every hurdle in the path of starting a personal training career. All the best!
