I don't listen to the radio much anymore. The music is repetitive, and to be honest, there is only so much you can take of madcap "Morning Zoo's." I guess I listen to talk radio, but to be honest, most of my music listening is through the Internet.
I remember in the heady days of Napster, when our high speed Internet connection at work actually bogged down from everyone leaving their file sharing accounts active. Music was being collected and distributed from all over the world and from all eras and genres. I remember finding some great Tommy Dorsey at about the same time I found some rap from Japan that I was trying to find. Of course, our office issued an edict that file sharing services were strictly forbidden, and none to soon, because the courts were deciding that file sharing of that type was copyright infringement.
This has led way to legitimate music use over the web, and play list systems abound. Most social media have links to things like YouTube, where you can have an audio visual experience. Sad thing is, unless your laptop has high-end speakers, the only way to enjoy sound with any quality is through headphones, or to plug your laptop into a bigger sound system, more or less destroying its portability. Thanks to wireless technology, there are now viable solutions laptop-bases sound systems.
Wireless computer speakers are now available. By simply plugging in a transmitter to a USB port, your laptop can now connect to surround sound stereo speakers, placed anywhere in the house. This is the ultimate in portability and convenience. For example, I can load one of my play lists on my laptop while it is plugged in for a recharge in my bedroom and have the speakers in the living room blasting away at my choice of songs.
Additionally, if I need to move my laptop from the couch to the desk, I can do so without having to worry about having my earphones pop out of my ears, or having to balance a set of speakers on top of the laptop while I move it. I can go to anywhere else in the room, or in the house for that matter, without disturbing my media play.
The ultimate trick is the small-footprint home theater. With the wireless computer speakers and a wireless home projector, my family can watch movies or participate in educational programs without the need for a large setup. Not only that, but the portability means that the same situation can be created anywhere in our out of the house, any time we need.
