Roman blinds are a type of window treatment that is not typical looking. They are made from material rather than wood or metal like most other types of blinds. They are sectioned horizontally and pleated to look layered. They raise and lower in sections so that they look folded all the time. Most people think they have a more elegant look than regular drapes or blinds. They add a touch of elegance to any room they are in, they don t have to be only in formal living areas.

They can be lined with dark material so that they block out most of the light coming in the window, or they can be very thin so they let more light in but still offer some privacy. They can be a solid plain color or have a lively pattern that makes them pretty. Some people like the striped ones. Most people that choose roman blinds use a solid color like gold or black or red and a material like brocade or satin for the more formal areas they are in. This makes the rooms look more elegant. They generally choose a patterned or striped material for bedrooms and bathrooms.

This type of blind (or shade) is usually fairly expensive as blinds go. They need to fit the window they are covering perfectly or they won t look right. And since the biggest reason for choosing this kind of blind is the look of it, you want it to fit right. So be very careful when taking your measurements.

You also have to make sure you use the correct type of curtain rod and hardware to install them on. You can t use just any type of curtain rod to hang these on, you have to use one that is designed for roman blinds. And if you have an extra wide window you have to get the braces for in the center. Otherwise your blind will sag in the middle and this will not look good.

You can purchase roman blinds from most of the better department stores, some retail stores, custom order them from a professional draper, or make them yourself. The prices range from very expensive if you order them from a draper, to moderate at a department or retail store, to less costly if you make them yourself. And even if you don t know how to sew, you can find instructions for making them online or at a library.

The options you have for where you get them along with all the options of the type of material you want give you a large selection to choose from. So you will have decisions to make before you purchase your blinds. How much you want to spend, what type of material you want, what kind of rod and hardware you want, and how quickly do you want them.

Having them made or making them yourself will require some time, while going to the store and buying them already made will have them in your possession in a short amount of time.

So consider all your options before you decide. How much money do you want to spend, what kind of material do you want, and how long are you willing to wait for them are just some of the things to be decided. You also have to consider how formal or casual do you want them to look. So think carefully before you buy.
