If you have the option of testing a used system before buying then take advantage of this. If you are buying online then don't be afraid to ask questions. You should know exactly what you are getting to be assured of being happy with your purchase. This will also enable you to get the best deal possible. You can buy a tower cheaper without the monitor but if you need a monitor then it is usually cheaper to buy them together.
If you don't have your own operating system then you may want to get a computer that at least comes with a restore disk. This can be very important if you ever have the need to format your hard drive. If you have to purchase an operating system by itself then it can cost you a lot of money. The restore disk will have the operating system included and restore your tower to its original settings.
New computer warranties are not all you might expect. Once you purchase a new computer you only have 15 days to return it to the store and then you will probably need to exchange it only. After that time you have to call the company who made the computer for any problems you may have. They will send you parts or have you send the unit to them to fix. This can take more time than it's worth.
I have also had a lot of problems with the companies not wanting to honor their warranties. This is not all companies and I know a lot of other people who have not had this problem. I have just found that it is best for me to buy used computers and then fix them myself if needed.
You can usually find what you need with used computers. People may simply be getting rid of them because they got an upgraded one or they have more than they need. Used doesn't mean that there is something wrong with it or that it is of less quality.
If you are looking for a computer then you should at least think about used computers. This can save you a lot of money and you can still be just as happy with these.
