Industrial uses of vacuum pumps have been around for a century. Using the technology of a motorized piston system to pump air out of an environment a vacuum is created and that vacuum technology can be used in a number of industrial and commercial manufacturing processes to either forcibly add to or remove air and particles from a designated area.

On many production lines the rotary vacuum pump can be found working to mass produce items that are found in everyday life. One such industry that relies heavily on the rotary vacuum pump to drive the internal pistons of the machinery and force air away from a work space can be found in the baking and confectionary manufacturing of candy confections and snack foods.

Using equipment that is designed to temporarily attach an object for transport, onto a suction cup the candy makers are able to incorporate the suspended snack foods into their manufacturing process and achieve some remarkable feats of confectionary engineering.
The process of making ice cream flavored creamsicles is an example of how machinery is used to build a perfect treat.

For anyone that has wondered how do confectioners wrap vanilla ice cream with a candied shell so perfectly, the answer may be surprising! Rather than wrapping the ice cream base with a fruit flavored outer the shell, manufacturers begin by pouring a solid juice concoction into a mold and then freezing it as a solid flavored block.

Then after the juice sets a rotary vacuum pump is used to lower another, smaller mold inside the first solid juice mold and the excess juice is sucked out of the inner mold hollowing it and leaving the perfectly shaped shell of frozen juice. Then as the hollow juice bars are moved through the production line another series of vacuum pumps is used to inject the soft vanilla ice cream into the empty space of the juice mold, filling in up.

Finally, as the creamsicles are cooled and frozen, yet another grouping of mechanical fingers are used to gently insert the popsicle stick into the hardening ice cream. Using a rotary vacuum pump, the industrial machines that are used in the manufacturing of creamsicles can mass produce 100,000 frozen treats in an hour.

While modernized technology has speeded up the processing and measuring of ingredients used to make greater volumes of ice cream treats there has been no technology that has been able to effectively replace the rotary vacuum pump in the mass production lines of machinery that are supplying the American snack consumer with millions of different treats to chose from each day.
