My wife is really big into self sufficiency and sustainability. She spends hours doing research and trying to find ways to get more things done ourselves without relying on others, especially if relying on others means tapping our bank account. I can't say I disagree; I would rather do most things myself unless we're going to profit from having someone else do them for us.
As for car maintenance and repair, I have been leaving most of that to a friend of mine who decided to create such a business several years ago, but the current economy has caused him to raise his prices, and while he is my friend and I want to help him out, I would much rather save the money to invest in my own family.
She was doing some research the other day and came across brake bleeder kits. These kits make bleeding the brakes on a car extremely easy and affordable. By way of explanation, brakes need to be bled if air has somehow gotten into the brake lines. The air makes the brakes sluggish, compromising their efficiency and safety and making it difficult to stop the car quickly.
