If you are a smoker, then you already know that in today's society there is more pressure than ever on smokers to quit. Most smokers are concerned with their health, while other smokers are concerned with the fact that smoking is becoming less and less socially acceptable, especially in public places such as restaurants or bars. If you feel that now is the time to quit, then you should know that you are not alone. If you feel that now is the time to quit, then here are some hints, tips, and information that should get you well on your way to a smoke free life.

Almost one fourth of the battle to quit smoking is to get into the mindset that you are no longer a smoker. You may have been smoking for several years, or even most of your life, but that does not define who you are, and therefor it should be easy to change. Once you convince yourself that you are no longer a smoker, it will be easier for you to move away from the habit. A good deal of dealing with a nicotine addiction is to remember that a good bit of the battle is a mental one, with your mind as the battlefield. You have to constantly exercise and build up your will power in order to resist the urges and cravings brought on by your nicotine addiction.

One thing that you can also do to resist the urge to smoke is to have a friend or family member, or even both, that you can talk to who can hold you accountable and talk to you whenever your cravings seem like they may be too much. You need to make sure and be honest with this person when you have a craving. It may be difficult, but in the long run it will definitely be helpful, and you will be glad you did it. It is also very important that you consult your doctor, as he or she may be able to give you helpful medical advice that can help make the task less difficult on you.

Obviously an addiction is something that is extremely hard to break, and there are many who attempt to quit that fail, but that should not deter you from the road to recovery. It is important that you stay in the mindset that it is something you can break, and with a bit of determination and a lot of support, you undoubtedly will break it.
