Good food starts with the proper materials and ingredients. Even the worlds best chef cant do his best work if all he has is one blunt knife and a rusty cooking pot. Therefore, as you invest in kitchen supplies, make sure that you are purchasing the best. Good kitchen supplies, properly treated, will last you a lifetime. This is especially true of a butcher work surface.

These cutting boards are pretty much what their name implies. They are a large work surface of wood that has been created by gluing smaller pieces together under high pressure. The work surface is then sanded and treated with oil in order to make it safe to use for cutting meat.

However, with repeated use, these stumps could break and they were so porous that germs and blood would stick to the surface at all times.

If you are considering purchasing a butcher cutting board for your kitchen, there are two types from which you can choose. An end grain butcher block is the kind that is preferred by most professional butchers and chefs.

It consists of cutting board of wood turned on their end and fixed using glue together to create a cutting board about four inches thick.

However, this type of cutting board is very expensive. Edge grain butcher work surfaces are less expensive and therefore preferred on the consumer market. They are made by gluing long portions of wood together. Sometimes there is an underlying support structure, other times the wood is glued together in a fashion that resembles a parquet floor. Either way, by choosing to use a butcher block, you are ensuring that your meat is being chopped on a stable and sanitary surface.

Author Resource:

Some things to consider before you buy butchers block furniture or cutting boards, is whether it is end grain or not. Generally, end grain makes the best butcher block and is better for using with heavy knives, because, although it is more expensive, it is far longer lasting.
