From the moment you got engaged, thoughts of your wedding have filled your head. It is supposed to be a magical event that you and your guest will always remember. To do that, it can’t just be a cookie cutter wedding; you want something that all your own. Of course there are the wedding favors. Making sure you have unique wedding favors is a start. There is no magic formula for that unique wedding, but if you see some of the things other people have done you might get some ideas.
One very sweet, unique idea came to this one couple. The enclosed a few dried and pressed red rose pedals with the invitations they sent out. They also enclosed a note to bring the pedals with them to the ceremony. There they were added with white rose pedals and given to the flower girl. Before the bride walked down the isle there was a carpet of pedals from friends and family. Everyone had their own special part in the ceremony.
The ceremony it’s self really lends it’s self to so many ways to be creative and to make your wedding beautiful and unique. One interesting one was in a wedding of an Irish American family. Along with the tuxedo the groom and grooms men for a sash of their family clan. It took a little searching on the internet and special ordering but the end result was moving. Another beautiful idea was for a night time wedding. It was kept in low light after everyone was seated. As the bride’s maids and groom’s men marched down the isle each of them carried a pair of ornate lanterns. At what served as the alter the lanterns were placed (and turned up) and the entire ceremony was conducted by lantern light. It cast a nice romantic glow as they exchanged vows. Others that have had an outside wedding have shied away from the traditional layout with the bride and groom at the front of rows of chairs. Instead, they opted for a round dais or alter in the center of rings of chairs. The bride and groom would enter from opposite sides, passing under rose covered arbors to meet in the center. It gave the ceremony a very intimate feel.
Still others have tried to take that intimate feel to the reception. One idea was to light it almost entirely by candle light. To get the effect they wanted they placed round mirrors on the tables with a candle in a glass vase in the center. From the ceiling they hung fixtures with multifaceted reflective surfaces. It gave the feeling of dancing under twinkling stars. If you wanted to get really nutty you could turn down the thermostat and use just a little dry ice to give it a “A Mid Summer’s Night” sort of feel. It would look very magical and Edwardian.
You could go very practical. Kids get bored at receptions and some parents just stop long enough to see the cutting of the cake. Try renting a few kid sized tables and top it with crayons and coloring books. Sure, the parents won’t be closing down the reception but it can buy the parents some time to enjoy the event before the kids get too bored
There are all sorts of things you can do that your planner might not think of. It’s your day and you can make it your own.
