If you believe the latest figures that have been released by the government then apparently we have come out of recession which will be good news for the thousands of workers who will all be looking for jobs in East Anglia. The recession hit the whole world extremely hard with jobs being cut from China to America, Scotland to South Africa it was a truly global recession and no-one was immune.
Having said that the technological corridor, that exist between London and Cambridge was extremely hardly hit. This has left thousands of individuals crowding the job centres as they search for any jobs in East Anglia. Unfortunately there hasn't really been a whole host of jobs floating around and I can tell you from experience that the people who have been made redundant have literally been applying for any and every job.
One problem appears to be the attitudes of companies; I know I have met several individuals who are more than willing work once they have been made unemployed by their previous employer. However, when they visit the jobs centre looking for jobs in East Anglia they find that they are over qualified for some, have no experience in others and they are also expected to take huge wages cuts in others.
I've personally sent some people for job interviews and have heard that they have been turned down because they are over qualified, which in effect is a stupid excuse. Here we have an individual who is willing to work and earn money, they clearly have enough qualifications for the job, but the companies won't take them on as they assume that they will leave. It is a valid point for the companies to make, but at the same time it is extremely frustrating for the individual who would do anything to get a job, because once you take all in the jobs that you are over qualified for out of the equation, your options are extremely limited.
The good news is that if you are persistent then it does pay off. Thankfully we have now managed to find hundreds of unemployed people jobs and we won't rest until we have more people back in full time or part time employment. Hopefully now the government has announced that we have officially come out of recession then we can help people get their lives back to some form of normality.
