Always follow the instructions of use for generators. The manufacturer provides guidelines for each generator. Never overload the generator or use in any other way than what is recommended by the company. If you choose a portable generator, please use a heavy-duty extension cord that has been approved for use with such an appliance. Never try to refuel a generator when it is running. These products and fuel are highly flammable, so proceed with caution.
Probably one of the safest to use would be a natural gas generator. Natural gas generators have many conveniences. Homes that are connected to natural gas lines may choose to purchase this one. There is a constant supply line of fuel. It is permanently installed outdoors. It has a continuous monitoring device that can detect when your power is interrupted. Natural gas is a clean fuel and you wouldn’t need to worry about transporting fuel to your generator.
Other types include propane, gasoline and diesel. Many generators that homeowners choose usually run off of these fuels. Gasoline generators are most popular because gasoline is so easy to access. Based on power per weight, gasoline gives the most output but these generators require regular maintenance. Another concern with gasoline generators is carbon monoxide. They can also be rather noisy. In cold weather, it takes it awhile to get started and emits smoke and odors.
Diesel is another alternative and is rather easy to find. The cost of diesel is more expensive but these generators require fewer repairs and are more fuel-efficient. This generator is also noisy when on.
Propane users that have propane tanks can easily operate the propane generator. They are already familiar with propane, so they might choose the propane-fueled generators. Propane is a little more expensive. These generators have an advantage over gas and diesel generators because they require less maintenance; start up is easy in cold weather and creates no condensation
They come in large and smaller sizes as well. The smaller ones can power your most basic needed appliances of the homeowner. Larger generators require more fuel to power the same appliances. So this is something to think about. A 5-kilowat portable generator could power as many as five large appliances and the lights in your home. The larger generators are used frequently by commercial properties or business such as hospitals. A smaller home with a portable generator could benefit from the smaller one as well. You must consider all of these facts when wanting to buy a generator. It could make your life easier and you have to never worry again about power outages.
