Squirrels can be real pest and can damage your birdfeeder. Choose a good one and stop these pests in their tracks. A really good bird feeder will cause squirrels to make several attempts at trying to retrieve the seed. If it is too easy for them to get the seed, you will find out that your feeders are empty and no birds have been fed in the attempt. Most people want to watch birds not squirrels enjoying the birdseed they buy.
There are many out there that claim to stop squirrels from eating the seed but don’t stop them. A few effective ones include the dome-shaped feeder, weight device feeder and spin bottom feeder. The dome-shaped feeder makes it impossible for the squirrel to land on and eat from the feeder. The squirrel looses his balance and falls off. This prevents them from extracting the seed. The seed remains in place for the birds. It easy access for the bird because they are able to perch and reach in the feeder. Another feeder causes the squirrel to skate down the feeder and as soon as he reaches the bottom of the feeder, a sling mechanism hurls the squirrel from the feeder causing no harm. There are a few to consider but find what works for you.
You don’t want to keep wasting birdseed and money so make sure that it will do what it promises to do. The feeder should be durable and built well or squirrels will gnaw through them. Make sure it is of the high quality materials and construction. Squirrels will make repeated attempts at getting the seed and soon discover that after these attempts some seed will fall from the feeder. Then the squirrel continues to jump and land on the feeder until enough has fallen to fill his belly. This is why you want a feeder that can withstand squirrel abuse.
It is all about discouraging these pests to stop trying to eat the birdseed. The squirrels will fall and fly and may not stop right away to get the seed. But if they cannot find enough for a meal, they will become discouraged and move on. You want to be able to attract birds and enjoy bird watching. But it can be fun to watch squirrels flip and fly off the feeders. Choose a good feeder and stop wasting money on these squirrels and feed the bird that you intend to feed.
