Here’s a few simple ideas for making your day at the flea market even further enjoyable.
The majority flea markets are out-of-doors so you might wish some sunscreen, a hat and some sunglasses. A cool drink tucked away in the bottom of your bag is also a great plan. For my part, I take a shopping cart so I can carry my new found goodies about with no difficulty. There are various very inexpensive carts that fold up and easily fit into the trunk of your car.
I also make sure I wear a comfy pair of walking shoes so I won’t have to finish my day early due to tired feet.
One more great tip is to walk to the very end of the vendor’s stalls and work your way back towards the entry. This way you will have the heaviest load from items you have bought when you are nearest your car. Generally folks begin at the entrance of the flea market so if you begin at the back you will be likely to spot lots of bargain priced odds and ends before too many other people do.
Also, because it is perfectly okay to barter with the vendor, I typically take some small change in my purse so I don’t have to pull out large notes during the haggling. Another thing to bear in mind is that you are more likely to get a better price later in the day when the seller is hoping to boost his overall profits for the day. By the end of the day though most vendors are very prepared to lower the prices on the things they have remaining. They definitely don’t want to have to bundle up any more stuff at the end of the day than they absolutely have to. The down side to this tactic is by going to a flea market first thing in the morning you are likely to be able to take advantage of the selection before everyone else has.
There are different ways to reach a deal on the price of any given item. You can ask the seller what the lowest price is that they will take for a given item. You can also offer to pay a certain price and see if they will take you up on the bid. Alternatively, if you want to offer $10 then have the correct money in your hand for them to see. Seeing the cash will often influence them to take your offer. Be fair with the vendor but don’t forget that you may also unearth the exact same item in the next isle even cheaper.
So good luck, have fun and happy bargain hunting!
