If you have never hung wallpaper or a wall mural, these tips can help you hang it effortlessly and avoid making a mess. By following each step and gathering the correct materials, you will save yourself a headache and have a beautiful wall in the end.

To make sure your project is successful, gather up these materials first off. You will need a pencil, ladder, ruler, water, razor knife, wallpaper paste, a mixing container, a yardstick, plumb line, brush and a soft cloth. The wall that you have chosen for the mural must be prepared to guarantee that the mural will adhere. Remove any old wallpaper, dirt and dust from the wall. Any holes or cracks should be filled with spackle or wall plaster. You might need to sandpaper the fillings after using plaster. The surface should be smooth and flat. The wall should be covered with two good coats of latex paint so that the adhesive will stick properly.

Gather all your tools and the mural and place on the floor close to the wall where you will be hanging the mural. A good idea is to lay the mural out and in the correct order before hanging. This will help you avoid getting confused once you start placing the panels on the wall. Once you have all of these things together and organized; now it is time to mix the paste. The paste is usually in powder form and has to be mixed with water. Follow the mixing instructions carefully and use the mixing container for this step.

Before adhering the panels to the wall, you should measure and mark where they are to be placed. The plumb line can be used to mark straight lines to help line up the murals. The paste should be applied thinly and evenly on the wall and also on the panel you are getting ready to hang. Make sure to brush from the center out to the edges. A lot of paste could cause the panels to rip. After placing on the wall, use the cloth and brush to remove any air bubbles. Each panel can be overlapped about ¼ inches to leave space for shrinking once the panels dry. Once dry use the razor knife to make any adjustments to the edges. Residual paste can be removed with a damp cloth.

Room temperature should be around 60 degrees Fahrenheit and no warmer than 75 degrees. This will increase your success with placing the mural. You should be able to apply all panels in one session by following these steps.
