In every competition under the sun, all contestants have a singular aim…to be # one. The scenario is not so different in the SEO (Search Engine Optimization) field too. Every webmaster, company with a website or blogger, wants their site to be ranked highest. The competition in the SEO domain has increased multifold to what it was a few years ago. The number of pages indexed by the search engines has increased at a geometric progression. Even with all keywords optimization processes it is difficult to obtain high rankings. What is more difficult is to sustain a top rank if you have reached it. Hence it is important to set realistic expectations for your SEO project.
Remember Traffic is the Issue! Don’t run gaga over ranking. Your aim is to drive quality search engine traffic to your website. Unfortunately most aim a search ranking with in the first five for a given keyword. It’s true that it greatly increase their targeted traffic and their sales. But don’t have a notion that a SEO service provider can magically snap their fingers or wave their magic wand to place your site at the top of the search index when there are hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of others that offer basically the same thing. Well don’t lose heart, SEO is not dead. But you need to widen your horizon. People concentrate so much on the "money phrases" that they completely neglect many areas of their site. Instead they put their special phrase on every page and never research the thousands of others that are being typed by very qualified prospects into search engines every day.
Know what good content is! These days we have a whole lot of companies that will write "good content" for you or ‘rent’ you content! These are as bad as landmines. Good content is not equal to history of you company or description of your products. Do not put up a bunch of pages with drab content where you simply substitute keyword phrases from one page into the other. Good content stems from creativity. It is not peeping into what your competitors have on their pages and copying them. You should have an individual thought and a style of pouring it out. It will definitely draw good search traffic in the long run. But such content will not come with the flick of a switch and will take time to come.
Don’t go for SEO companies who say it’s all magic! There are such consultants who say they can do whatever you want them to. You want to be #1 …it will happen tomorrow! Don’t eat such promises. You will only waste your dollars in ‘no-prompt’ results. Neither can you blame them as it never happens so. They are only trying to grab the business like everybody by saying what you would like to hear.
So set your expectations realistic and work towards it. You are sure to get good results in the long run.
