Cornwall is a famous location for movies filming. Many movies scenes were shot there; Johnny English, Wild West, Saving Grace, James Bond - Die Another Day. The filming locations in Cornwall such as in St Austell, North coast around Port Isaac, Trebar with Srand, St Michael’s Mount.

Most of the Victorian era scenes apart from the studio were filmed at Torpoint and Plymouth; mainly at Antony House in Torpoint, Cornwall.

"...a perfect, pocket-sized mansion; something beautifully symmetrical, with intimate interiors, wide views and landscaped gardens...” is what Tim Burton is searching for, according to UK’s National Trust. That would be one of the reason why Anthony House is the on the top of the list.

That is how the gorgeous, unique gem Antony House and its magnificently well-maintained Victorian gardens became one of the most filmed locations of the Alice in the Wonderland film.

It is also said that the famous Mad Hatter’s tea party become one of the scene that is filmed in Anthony House

Let’s talk a bit about Anthony House:

Antony House was constructed between 1711 and 1721 for Sir William Carew. The estate has been owned to the Carew family since 15th century (over 600 years).

The house is a home for marvellous created fine, stunning garden landscape, created by one of the great landscape Georgian garden designer, Humphrey Repton. The garden is so huge, Gardens stretching itself to the River Lynher.

"…….Explore the rainbows of this family friendly garden with the children in tow, and watch their glee as they are captivated by the cacophony of colours, the fairytale Japanese pond, the 10 metre Yew Cone and the fascinating modern sculptures decorating the soft, green lawns….” Cornwall Tourist board describe it.

The House, unlike the house build in Victorian era, Anthony house was the modernisation house of the Victorian Era.

Charlestown Harbour, Charlestown, Cornwall, England, UK

The” tall ships” in Charlestown harbour are used in Alice in Wonderland produced by Tim Burton
The name "Charlestown” was from its port developer and owner; Charles Rasleigh during 1790-1810. Charlestown Harbour is a historic port of Charlestown. It is close to St Austell in Cornwall. The harbour was built with the intention mainly to ship China clay, even today; some China clay is still being exported. The port has not been developed further and retained its original form.

Charles town has become a working museum and a home to a variety of four masted sailing ships. It is home for variety collection of "tall ships”, which one can see often in movies and TV, and also has become one of the tourist attractions in Cornwall
The port is famous for movie and TV filming because it create the atmosphere of traditional and unique background for sailing port
