You are a smoker, and as such you have started to notice that it is becoming less and less socially acceptable to smoke, be it in public (at least wherever smoking in public is still legal) or anywhere for that matter. You are aware that there is a growing stigma against smokers, and you are also aware that your friends and family want you to quit. You are tired of hearing comments about how your breath always smells like cigarettes, how your clothes smell like smoke, and how your teeth have become stained due to the tar in the cigarettes you use.
It is for all of these reasons that you have decided the time has come to quit smoking. But there is a snag in your plan to quit. You find yourself intimidated by the task ahead of you because you have heard so many stories about people who have tried to quit smoking, only to end up failing. Well, you need not feel intimidated anymore, because here are some tips that will make the task easier for you to take on.
The first thing you need to do is acknowledge that you are a human being, and as such are fallible. You may end up lighting up at some point before you successfully quit, but you should not be hard on yourself if this happen. The temptation to smoke is an extremely strong one to overcome. You also need to remember that just because you have lit up once, it does not mean that you have to start over. It simply means that you hit a bump in the road to a smoke free life.
You should be sure to talk to your friends and family members that smoke and let them know that you are trying to quit, and then politely ask them to not smoke around you as it could tempt you to smoke and that would definitely hinder your progress. You should also talk to any friends or family members who have been able to quit smoking and ask them for advice on how they did it. This way you have some more tips to try out.
You also need to work on developing your willpower. If you truly wish to quit smoking, then you must know that you cannot solely rely on quit smoking aids such as nicotine gums and patches. These are only there to help you resist cravings, and will not do the actual work for you. Keep these things in mind and you are on your way to a smoke free life.
