Nearly all blogger users have Google Adsense ads on their blog to bring in revenue from visitors who click through the ads. Many bloggers are frustrated because they make a few pennies a day through Adsense and hear stories about people who make hundreds of dollars a day. What gives? How can you increase your Adsense earnings and make a decent passive income from your blog? Here are some tips to increase your click through rate (CTR).
First and foremost, you need to place your Adsense ads in a way that has been found to maximize CTR. You've heard it before; location, location, location and its true. As much as we bloggers would like to express our creative sides by going against the flow, Google thrives on simplicity and so do their ads.
Ad placement can make or break your CTR. The most common place you'll find Adsense ads is the sidebar, but placing ads within the blog's content can really increase your Adsense earnings. Place ads within your blog posts themselves and make sure they are relevant to the topic of the post. Visitors who are reading a post are already interested in that topic and are more likely to be interested in ads pertaining to the topic. Alternately, you can place your Adsense ads between posts, although the keyword and subsequent ads will be a little less targeted.
Another great way to increase your Adsense earnings is to utilize your blog feed. Did you know your feed can often contain advertising? Think about how many more people you are reaching with this technique. People who might never have found your blog and now they have access to it and immediate access to your Adsense ads. Submit your feed to as many sites as you can, prioritizing the ones that will post your ads within the feed.
Think about how you view a blog. Your eyes immediately go to the area just below the header, right? This is a great place to put a 468x15 horizontal ad block that will get immediate attention. Make sure the keywords are closely related or identical to the blog title.
Finally, keep in mind that your goal is to maximize the possibility that your visitors will click your Adsense ads. Don't clutter your blog, make the Adsense block blend with the background and use graphics sparingly that can draw the eye to the ads. These aren't against Google's TOS, as long as you are not using misleading headings to force a click through.
