How about because you can cut your electricity bill in half with no trouble (even go completely off the grid). Or how about for the reason that there is a huge power crisis on this earth. The more we can do as individuals the less we have to count on a govt. that can't seem to get it right.

Reading this article is a good start. In fact, that is exactly how i on track, by doin research. You have the advantage though, since there are so many individuals that have already done projects like this you don't have to go through all the trial and boo-boo that I did to find the correct set of Back yard Windmill Plans.
There are alot of scams out there.
But there are also a couple of trustworthy companies that offer products that will give you a effective windmill in a short time. All you give is a couple hundred dollars, some motivation, and some elebow grease. I went to Earth4Energy to get my plans. One short weekend is all it took for me to build my first windmill!
I won't lie to you, I had some aid. My 6 year old daughter and I did it together. It was loads of enjoyment and super simple, and she was a big help. We now have a effective electricity generating windmill at our house in the suburbs and it creates on average about 60% of our energy requirements. It only took two months for me to get my money back!
If you are thinking about making your energy don't pay someone 1000's of bucks to do it for you! If you do you are missing a great chance to have some fun, save some money, and do something super worthwhile for yourself.
