The physical pain is enough to make you vow to never take another drink. You might feel tired, nauseated, weak, or suffer from a really bad headache. A throbbing pain inside your head is the best description of a hangover headache. You could either not drink at all to avoid a hangover or take some preventive measures. One alcohol drink per day will definitely not cause hangovers and it is wise to drink in moderation. But if you want to prevent a hangover, first understand what causes it.
Alcohol is a diuretic and it causes dehydration more than water because you have to urinate often. It also effects the prostaglandin that controls pain. Sometimes inflammation can occur in swollen blood vessels. The liver tends to make less glucose when alcohol is consumed. This also put a strain on brain cells and interrupts your sleep and all combined will cause a hangover.
To avoid waking up with a pounding headache, you could try eating a greasy meal before going out drinking or while you are drinking. Stocking your body with carbohydrates allows it to hold glucose in its system which alcohol drinking can remove from the body. If you take sips of fruit juice between drinking your cocktails, it can help restore glucose levels too. Light colored alcohol is better to drink that dark because the dark beverages have an effect on the blood vessel that can cause them to swell. Aspirin taken first thing in the morning after a drinking binge can help reduce the hangover symptoms. Try to avoid acetaminophen with alcohol because of the damage it may cause the liver.
If you adhere to the suggestions presented here, you might still wake up with head pain. Contrary to what people think, coffee is not a good choice for trying to cure a hangover. Caffeine can cause more inflammation and coffee is also a diuretic, so you will feel even more dehydrated afterwards. If you do use caffeine, follow it with lots of water. When the stomach is full of acidity after consuming alcohol, orange juice can make you feel worse. Try apple juice or less acidic juices or even sports drinks. Prepare your body by taking a B complex vitamin, which are known to fight stress and can help keep that headache away. The infamous suggestion of drinking even more alcohol the day after can help because the body is focusing on the new alcohol. The new alcohol is being broke down so you might only have temporary relief.
