We all have had those morning where the previous night's excesses of food, alcohol, dehydration, and lack of sleep catch back up with us. Hangovers are the price we pay for partying all night, without limiting ourselves. However, there are things that can be done that will greatly speed up a recovery from a hangover and restore balance to your body and mind.
The first thing you should take care of is your dehydration. Many people who go out and drink do not drink a lot of water between alcoholic drinks. Studies show that if you drink a glass of water between every alcoholic drink, it can greatly reduce your hangover the next morning. It also slows down alcohol consumption so that you can stay in better control of your body. If you decide not to, or forget to, drink water during the night, you want to make sure you start off the next day with a nice, cold glass of water, and continue to drink water all day to rehydrate yourself.
After your water levels have returned, your next step would be to start drinking grapefruit juice. Grapefruit is a very powerful cleanser and will quickly start to alkalize your blood, which in time will return it to healthy pH levels. Alcohol has a very acidic effect on your body, so that means you have to do the opposite effect to your body to make it healthy again, and grapefruit juice does just that.
When you finally get to the point where food seems probable, a nice bowl of fresh miso soup would be a very good start. Miso also alkalizes the body, but it also helps restore your body's salt and potassium levels, which you also lower while drinking.
The next step would be to get your body moving. If the weather is nice, go outside for a nice walk in the fresh air. That will get your blood circulating, which will help break down the toxins and flush them out of your system. Breathing the fresh air will pump your lymphatic system, which helps flood your body with much needed oxygen, making you feel better.
The best way, however, to prevent a hangover is to stop it or minimize it in the first place. Eating a good meal before you start drinking, preferably something with good oil in it. That will help to coat the intestines and slow down alcohol absorption.
Drinking water in between your alcoholic drinks is very effective to prevent hangovers. It is highly recommended, as it will prevent you from drinking to excess in the first place. Hangovers are never fun and they really waste your day. It is possibly to have a great time out on the town or at a party, without drinking to excess. You just have to make committed and conscious choices.
