There are many myths and suggestions on how to avoid a hangover the next morning. But do they really work and if so, how well? Some people think that by eating a meal before drinking will help and other believe that drinking more alcohol the morning after will help you feel better. But you should be aware of what could really work and what will not.
Fructose is a great nutrient to digest the day after drinking to prevent hangovers. This type of sugar helps the alcohol burn faster and it gets rid of the alcohol in your body. A large glass of apple or tomato juice will aid in your fast recovery. If you prevent a hangover but it will help you get over it sooner. You want to avoid acidic juices if your stomach is weak. The juice also contains lots of vitamins that are helpful also.
Using honey in tea or eating crackers are good for restoring your body. The starches and the fructose found in these foods combat dehydration and headaches. The classic drink for a hangover is lemon and hot water, you can make it better by adding honey. The quick change of alcohol levels is what cause headaches. You are totally dehydrated after drinking alcohol because of frequent urination. So if you drink lots of water to load up your body with fluids before drinking, it won’t be so bad the next day. Alcohol dehydration can cause some really unpleasant symptoms.
Some chemicals in the body after altered when a person consumes a lot of alcohol. Eating eggs can help absorb the alcohol and they contain cysteine that breaks down the acetaldehyde, which causes hangover symptoms. Eggs contain protein and that will give you some energy too. Your body’s potassium levels are also lost through the loss of fluids or the diuretic effect alcohol causes. To make up for this loss, try soups or broth that contain salt or bananas that are loaded with potassium. Sport drinks are great too to replenish the body after water loss. Ginger has been good for upset stomachs or motion sickness. This herb could also help calm your stomach if you brew ginger tea and add a bit of orange juice.
These cures can be really effective but there are so many other suggestions available that could work for you. More of them may seem like a myth but some will provide some relief.
