While you contemplate about music in a land like Thailand I am positive, similar to nearly all individuals, you imagine the music to be very ethnic, perhaps even Indian sounding. This nation has, of course, had its’ own especially distinct brand and style of music for a awfully extensive time, but the influences of the west have filtered in as it has with most countries. What is unusual about the Thai music scene is that they have their personal account of what we call classic rock. Places like Singapore, Malaysia and other South East Asian countries are more like outposts of the west, musically speaking. This is because of initial colonisation, keep in mind that Thailand has only ever been run by Thais and that is of elemental consequence, you can see the signs all over the place, and so music echoes that feeling. In Thailand now there is a good combination of all music that is offered in the world, as there is with every place you may vacation. The traditional music of Thailand is Luk Tung and is even now awfully well-liked at the moment with varying variations and progressive day versions. In the pop music scene, Korea K-pop and Japanese J-pop are strongly represented by local and international artists. The music scene changed in 1983 when the record company called Grammy shaped. Up to that time loads of western songs were on the radio, but Grammy encouraged fresh local artists to set up their own variations, today they have a 70 percent split of all music sold in Thailand. For 20 years the Thai music scene was like a bubble spanning all styles of music from Metal to Dance, it spawned countless rock stars and mega rock stars.
People became very rich from the music business in the country, and many mega careers were forged in that time phase.
The format was always cassette until the VCD movies filtered in from China, that saw scores of Thai households having a CD player that of course changed the retail patterns of the mass market. Unfortunately the technology were not the only thing the Thais inherited from China. Piracy came as well in a seriously huge way. These days with the internet now popping up all over things have moved on one time another time and people are open to so much additional music, songs can’t be plagiarised quite so observably, which is a nice thing, but again, the criminal file sharing and copying has taken its’ toll here also. In a funny way this knowledge has made organizations revert back to the traditional music as it still sells in its’ thousands and thousands and is not as copied and pirated as the rest of the music business. Individuals on a Thailand holiday can see indication of all of this all over, and can sample all the colourful genres of music Thailand has to propose, from the local bars and pubs to the discos and night clubs. It is all there, from classic western rock to local Isan music, covered, copied, recycled but always enjoyed.
