You want to quit smoking. It is as easy as that. You are a smoker, and you are aware of the toll it is taking on your health, and you are also aware of the growing stigma against smoking, especially in public places. People do not like the smells associated with cigarettes, they do not like the potential damage it is causing the environment, and they do not like all of the messy ashes that are left behind. You have tried to quit smoking before, but you know that it is one of the most difficult tasks a person can take on, primarily due to the immense mental strain. With these tips you might be able to kick the habit out of your life once and for all.
The first thing you need to focus on is breaking the mentality of being a smoker. This means that while you may have smoked in the last week, few days, or even within the last hour, you need to be able to tell yourself that you are no longer a smoker and never will be again. This way you can get it into your mind that you no longer allow nicotine into your life. Then you should go around your house or your apartment, or whatever it is you live in and round up all of your smoking supplies. This means that you should take all of your packs of cigarettes, your lighters, you ash trays, any rolling papers (if you use those), and tobacco, and just throw them all away. After all, you are no longer a smoker, and therefor you do not need them, right? Right.
The next thing you need to do is talk to any friends or family members you may have that have quit smoking before and get some pointers from that. After all, every little bit helps. You should also politely ask any friends or family members of yours that do still smoke to not smoke around you, as it will only bring about stronger cravings for cigarettes, and that is the last thing that you need.
You can also look on websites for more tips on how to resist cravings. You need to remember, however, that the fight for you to have a smoke free life is your fight alone, nobody else's. You need to be able to build up your own willpower to resist cravings.
