Lesser portions is the key
Portion sizes have increased dramatically over the years. Everybody desires to get a good amount for their dollar so portion sizes have increased in many restaurants to accomplish the value people have been aiming for. This is good for people who don't care about their diet but you are trying to eat more healthy this can be bad for you diet. You can still visit a restaurant just aim to make sure you are limiting your portions and look for a healthier selection on the menu. Maybe aim for the grilled chicken salad instead of a huge breaded chicken sandwich.
Off limits is not a good way of thinking
Wanting forbidden food is a natural way of thinking when you tell yourself you cant have a certain food choice. It is hard enough without forbidding yourself from something. I alway use the example of being on stage and tripping over your own feet. You think so hard about not failing you accidentally convince yourself to not succeed.
