Mud tires are designed for off road use. Usually in places where the ground is so soft you need the aggressive tread and where street tires just wont cut it. These tires do not tend to be very good for everyday use. They tend to make a lot of unnecessary road noise and wear out faster on everyday pavement. People who buy mud tires know why they are buying them, they want to get muddy!

Off road tires usually come in a couple different types. One type is an all purpose tire. The typical person that buys this tire drives on paved roads all day with the occasional back road experience. Not really providing a lot of traction if you get into a slippery spot but tend to be quiet on the paved roads. They also tend to last a lot longer then others.

All-terrain tires and more aggressive and provide more traction when encountering rocks, mud or even sand. As long as the surfaces are not to soft. Overall still a good all around tire.

Mud tires are the most beastly of the three. There traction marks tend to be wider and deeper. Providing a tire that mud has a smaller chance of building up and causing a slick surface. When purchasing these kinds of tires there are a few things someone should consider.

The first thing is the size of the tires, these tires are normally a lot bigger then normal street tires. This is because of the large tread marks on the tire and the wider surface for better traction. Also because a lot of people tend to think the bigger your tires the more bragging rights you have. If you choose a tire that is too big for your vehicles setup you will run into some problems. The most common being tire rubbing either on the tire well or the truck frame. Causing tires to wear out faster and loss of turning radius.

The main thing you will notice when purchasing these tires is the tread pattern. The wider spaced and deeper the tread the better job of digging into the mud. Lets not forget throwing mud behind your truck covering spectators and other vehicles. Creating a show everyone will enjoy.

Just keep in mind these tires are not ideal for use on the highway or even in the city. They will cause a very loud noise and a rough ride. A little food for thought, when buying these tires you might want to consider having another set of tires used for when your not out having fun tearing up the mud.
