You might have problems with your dog jumping on people, digging, or barking too much. The most effective method to solve these difficulties is to catch them before they even start to become habit, and this is done by training your puppy to understand what is expected of him or her through positive reinforcement of correct behaviors. One issue that can be quite dangerous to dogs, as well as the others involved in the problem is dog chasing behavior. There are various approaches you could implement to stop dog chasing, and fixing this problem necessitates that the owner is unfailing in their approaches.

Stop Dog Chasing: Prevention

One such technique to stop your dog from chasing cars is to allow the dog outside only while on a leash at all times. Dog should not be allowed outside without a leash in the first place as this can be dangerous both for the dog and for others whenever the dog approaches a road. Even if you live out in the country where you feel there is little danger because there is no traffic you should be sure that you have trained your dog to remain in his own territory so that he does not go on the road and create an accident. Additionally, this will prevent the dog from going after any people who come into close range of his property. Letting your dog chase either a person, car, or another animal is highly dangerous and should never be allowed. Not only is it hazardous to all parties involved, it may also foster aggressive behaviors in the dog, and this is not something that any owner wants in a family pet.

Even if the dog is chasing a person in play, there should not be any positive reinforcement of that specific behavior. While it may be fun to play chase, it fosters aggressive behavior from the dog and encourages chasing behavior that you don't want your dog to duplicate with visitors. The best method an owner could use to stop dog chasing would be to refrain from fleeing the dog as he attempts to play with them. When the dog is behaving this way, the owner needs to turn away from their dog and deny giving him any kind of attention. After the dog calms and no longer shows this behavior, then turn around and praise the dog, giving him or her plenty of attention. Alternatively, a dog owner could command his dog to sit to help bolster proper behavior and stop dog chasing whenever he acts up. Once the dog sits for his owner, he ought to provide him with ample attention to show the dog that positive behavior is rewarded while negative behavior is not appreciated.
