Flat screen technology has only been on the market for a few years but have already taken the place of its predecessor the CRT TV. These thinner TV systems have made it possible for a revolutionary way of advertising outside of the home. The demands are higher for digital signage than that of home entertainment screens while HDTV makes a difference on how you watch the latest movies but has little impact on advertisers campaigns that are transmitted over a digital signage screen. But the technology does differ in flat screen TVs that offer advantages and disadvantages for both.
Flat screens are available in LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) or plasma and there was a definite difference between the two. Plasmas had a clearer image and brighter output while LCDs used less power and there was less chance of screen burn. The protection of the screens is now more important than the differences and the quality of the image isn’t comprised because of other factors. Digital signage that is continually on and is exposed to direct sunlight is quite different from home use. Heat build up and sunlight can cause equal amount of damage to plasma and LCD screens.
Smart technology is used for enclosures that protect LCDs and plasmas. They contain air curtains that blow a continually cool stream of air across the screen and also prevent sun glare that can cause hotspots. For the screen to be as readable as possible, anti-glare glass should be used in the enclosures extensively. Direct sunlight will not affect the display as long as the screen can be read through the assistance of the anti-glare glass. The protection of the screen is just as important as operating a campaign. It will be cost effective to use preventative measures than to have to replace the screen.
Operating cost and protection have become easier in part due to development of LCD screens that have a backlight. LED’s (light emitting diodes) sends light to the screen and uses less power than traditional LCD technology. The screen will not heat up as quickly either. Thus the screen will last longer and cost less money to operate. There other cost-effective ways that have been added to the already advanced technology of digital signage screens. Flat screen technology is fairly new and using the technology along with advertising can create new ways to reach customers and create more innovative ideas.
