Some people are not as familiar with gas grills as they are with appliances in their homes that operate off of natural gas like the range or the furnace. Many have never dreamed of cooking with natural gas on a grill instead of their cooking stove. Many grills operate on propane but if you are already a natural gas user you should consider using it for your grill. There are some benefits with using natural gas grills and limitations as well. If you are already using a propane grill, there are some options for you too.
Natural gas is great for cooking food with because it is odorless and doesn’t affect the taste of your food. You will not taste natural gas in your food unlike charcoal. You will only taste the flavor of the food and the flame. For cooking outdoors, this is what you want to achieve. If you choose to use woods to enhance the flavor like hickory plank, you will taste that flavor and nothing else. If you like to grill often, natural gas is the best choice.
Besides getting great flavor, you won’t have to worry about cleanup. You simply turn on the grill, allow it to warm up for about five minutes to allow the grates to heat up and start grilling. All you need for clean up is a wire brush to scrub the grates and clean the dishes and that is all. There is no worry about dumping the charcoal and using charcoal lighter. No more waiting for the coals to cool off and throwing away the waste. Cooking with gas makes clean up easy.
Some disadvantages with switching to natural gas over propane are you must have a line that is fixed and hard ran to the grill. There is usually a charge involved with this type of work for the gas company to complete. The grill will have to remain immobile since the line will be fixed to the grill. You will not be able to move it around. If you have an ideal spot for the grill and feel that there is no need to move it, call the gas company to get an estimate of the work to be done and an installation date.
If you have a propane gas grill and don’t want to spend a lot of money on a natural gas grill, there are kits available that allows you to convert your propane tank to natural gas.
