There are many important considerations when building an MMA workout. It is important to put together all of the aspects of mixed martial arts into your training. The skills that are required for a fighter include great conditioning, striking, grappling, wrestling, jiu-jitsu, and mental preparation.

Conditioning is commonly considered one of the most important facets of fighting, along with mental preparation. In order to win a fight, a fighter must be able to fight at peak levels for long periods of time while enduring large amounts of punishment. Even some of the best fighters in the world have been defeated due to lack of conditioning.

It takes a long time to learn to be an effective striker. Due to this fact, it is important to train in boxing, kickboxing, Muy Thai, or other striking disciplines as often as possible. Becoming an excellent striker requires a lot of hard work and dedication.

Grappling can take place both in a standing position and on the ground. It is important for grapplers to have good balance, hand strength, and coordination. A lot of grappling skills also flow into the wrestling and jiu-jitsu portion of training.

Wrestling is a key component for martial arts. It provides a great offensive and defensive base for the fighter. A good wrestler can keep the fight standing on their feet with good defensive skills or take it to the ground when need be.

Ground skills, such as jiu-jitsu, have become an intregal part of MMA competition. In addition to being a necessity for competition, they also are a great workout for anyone attempting them. Good ground skills can neutralize a good striker or wrestler and are key to a solid foundation in martial arts.

Being mentally prepared is incredibly important for both training and actual fights. It is easy for someone to get worn out when training day in and day out. Also, even incredibly talented and skilled fighters have been beaten by lesser opponents that were more mentally prepared for the fight.

There is no ultimate workout routine that can combine all of these different aspects into one workout. Even if there was, the body will eventually get used to the same routine and slowly begin to adjust to the difficulty. Surprising the body with new and difficult workouts is the best way to make great progress in training.

In the end, the goals of each person building an MMA workout will be different. Some will do it to become the best fighter they possibly can. Others will do it simply because they enjoy it or to get some good exercise for their body. It is crucial that whatever the reason, the person defines their own goals and trains to the best of their abilities.
