Undoubtedly, you have heard the term panic attack. The actuality is that panic attacks are genuine, but they are just one of many types of anxiety disorders. One myth surrounding anxiety is that having an anxiety disorder somehow makes you a bad or weak person. Everyone has had feelings of anxiousness or fear at some time or another. How a person copes with those emotions is what determines if it is ruling your life or not. For a growing percentage of society, the impact of anxiety is very genuine, and that only reflects cases that are reported. What is really alarming is that many young people and children are also affected by stress and anxiety.
Panic attacks can happen anywhere and at any time. You may have one while in the office, shopping mall, walking down the road, driving in your car, or sitting on the couch at home.
Although the duration of a panic attack can vary greatly, it commonly lasts for more than ten minutes, is one of the most distressing conditions that a person can experience, and panic attack indications can closely mimic those of a heart attack.
A number of other emotional problems can have panic attacks as a symptom. Some of these illnesses include posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), schizophrenia, and intoxication or withdrawal from certain drugs of abuse.
Panic attack symptoms includes a combination of the following signs:
Fear of dying, losing control, or going crazy
Shortness of breath or hyperventilation
Heart palpitations or a racing heart
Feeling dizzy, lightheaded, or faint
Trembling or shaking
Choking feeling
Feeling unreal or detached from your surroundings
Hot or cold flashes
Chest pain or discomfort
Sweating
Nausea or upset stomach
Numbness or tingling sensations
Dreamlike sensations or perceptual distortions
Breathing difficulty
Hormone problems
Dry mouth
These signs can direct to a more critical disorder and the symptoms are :
Anticipatory anxiety. You will feel extremely tense and anxious in its place of feeling relaxed and like yourself in between panic attacks. This anxiety stems from a fear of having future panic attacks. This " fear of fear "is present most of the time, and can be enormously disabling.
Phobic avoidance. You will begin to avoid certain environments or situations. Or you may keep away from places where escape would be not easy or help would be unavailable if you had a panic attack. Taken to its extreme, phobic avoidance becomes agoraphobia.
The downside of these panic attack signs and symptoms is that your body will feel tired and shaky after they subside. You may feel as if you have run a marathon yourself. Feeling tired or achy is a necessary side effect, if you are aware that it may happen, when it does, you will know what it is and it won't scare you as much!
