Ergonomics is the relationship between the person, the equipment and the environment. Most people see this relationship as solely in the workplace, with equipment or machinery for creating safety. However, there is no set formula to this equation. It can be equally relevant in the home situation, where the use of equipment can put the human body at risk. Ergonomics is a beneficial and safe way to perform productive activities, but is also valuable to assist with weight loss in the severely overweight. This is because using ergonomics will help to restore imbalance in muscles being used for skeletal movement, when performing functional activities. The focus of this article is for people who have more than a few pounds of weight to shed and are having difficulty moving around. Having a lot of extra body weight on your body is significant to ergonomics, because your skeletal movements are limited by the extra weight you are carrying around. In order to move, your muscles will be having trouble lifting the extra weight. Your body modifies the movements, for making it easier; but the muscles are no longer equally balanced. It means your muscles are unable to perform correct movements safely. You will have discomforts, because your skeletal joints will be poorly aligned and will not be moving correctly, without proper balanced weight distribution. It is common sense to realize that any severe loading on the skeletal joints of your body, will naturally impair your functional ability to move. The hips, knees and ankles are the weight- bearing joints and they will be hurting with your extra weight to move. Your neck and back will try to compensate, by moving more than they should, in an effort to counteract the strain. It is a 'lose-lose' equation, unless you balance is altered in your skeletal movements. When your balance is corrected, the loading will be easier and you will be able to move better. This will allow you to perform activities with greater ease. Using ergonomics when you are severely overweight will help to correct your functional movements, in order to become more comfortable in productive activity. By being more comfortable, you will have more energy and motivation to be more active and as a result, there will me more drive to help your weight loss become easier. Our business of Active Living Solutions Ltd. is designed to help people overcome discomforts to become more functionally active and participatory. We have starting by selling ergonomic chairs, because people need to sit, in order to be comfortable. However, sitting will only be comfortable if the principles of ergonomic are understood and applied. Our company offers a free 'Therapeutic Active Living Plan' with any chair and stool we sell. Our aim is to create a lifestyle of comfort, through safe ergonomic performance in productive activity.
