You have an interest in learning the way to ride a horse. You decide to take a few classes to coach you the easiest way to ride. Your first day of class, you told that you are going to discover how to inspect and maintain a saddle. You'll learn the part of western saddle and how they are used.
You just wanted to learn how to ride, why do you need to study doing maintenance on a saddle? You are saddened to learn you need to learn the rest before you will be taught how to ride. You raise your hand and ask why it is so crucial. Great, now you've got to wait.
All night you are pondering why you cannot just ride the pony. To you, it seems that you have to do unimportant work that you don't have to know anything about. The next day as everyone seems to be preparing for the days class, you see a van pull up.
You are told that there'll be a special guest presenter today. Then the instructor introduces the person in the wheelchair as derrick and he's your guest speaker for the day. OK, why is a person who is in a wheelchair is talking to a bunch of people who are learning the way to ride? So he starts. He tells you about the morning that he decided to go riding with a friend. He had things to do that afternoon and he wanted to hurry up and get a ride in before he lost his opportunity. This would be a call that he would regret later.
Then the teacher introduces the person in the wheelchair as crane and he is your guest presenter for the day. Okay, why is a person who is in a wheelchair is speaking to a bunch of people who are learning the way to ride?
He believed that the fall just knocked him comatose for a little and they took him to the emergency room. He would find out later that when he fell, he broke bones in his back. He will never be able to walk again. He learned that his accident could have been stopped if he just took a second to check the parts of western saddle. Now you understand why derrick is there. He's living proof that you need to be careful; he's the epitome of what not to do when it comes to horses and gear.
