If you’re asking how to increase web traffic, then I suppose you’ve already put a lot of the building work in place. You have a website, you have identified who your target group is and you have an idea which keywords attract the best targeted traffic. You have a squeeze page as your landing page so that you can build a subscriber list.

Ask yourself if you want to know how to increase web traffic or how to increase targeted traffic, and potential buyers. There is an important distinction.

Before we look at the massive opportunities you have to increase traffic with Web 2.0 methods, bear in mind that even if you’ve been warned off pay-per-click advertising, as long as you closely monitor your spend, this phase will give you priceless information before you launch your Web 2.0, Social Media campaigns.

Pay per click will show you which keyword phrases bring real prospects and get you opt-ins. You do this by placing a simple piece of code on the end of your destination urls when you write your ads, (eg. ‘?t=yourkeyword). Then, when you look in your autoresponder account, you’ll see which keywords are bringing the opt-ins.

You can also track sales in the same way, whether you are selling non-physical products through Clickbank, or physical ones through affiliate networks like Commission Junction. Those sites will clarify how.

Once you have some statistics about best performing keywords, then the question is how to increase web traffic from targeted visitors. You now have some keywords which seem to bring good results. You can switch off your PPC campaign if you wish, though if it’s profitable - why would you?

Now it’s time to ramp up your efforts using articles, optimised around these same ‘hot’ keyword phrases. Submit Press releases - provided you have a newsworthy angle - as long as the content is keyword-optimised. Two great Web 2.0 sites that Google adore are HubPages.com and Squidoo.com, where you can create a ‘hub’ or a ‘lens’ respectively, again optimised around the best search phrases.

You can place ads on Facebook, at a fraction of the price of Google pay per click, though with less analytical functions. Facebook is a massive market though, and you can use your keywords to create ads that will draw the right visitors to your site.

You can create a blog with your best keyword term in the domain name. Set it up at Wordpress.org, and add the SEO plug-in once it’s set up. Keep posting content to this blog, optimised of course, and using the same articles you posted on article directories such as ezinearticles.com. goarticles.com and articlebase.com.

You can post to forums in your topic area, using a signature link with your domain name in that links back to your blog, or site – both of which should have a form box, offering a free report of some kind in exchange for first name and e-mail. There is no one answer to the question of how to increase web traffic, but once you know your market and know the keywords they like to use, then the whole world of Web 2.0 and unpaid traffic generation will open up to you.
