I create my living, like it's, on creativity, spit and a little shoe polish. Well, not thus abundant spit and shoe polish. I'm a writer, a designer, and a serial entrepreneur. I'm also a therefore-called "skilled" on creativity. Which is why I found myself, at three o'clock one morning, puzzling over the inherent price of creativity.
Well, that is one reason; the opposite is that I could not sleep, and I had to think about something.
Here are some of the thoughts I came up with throughout my late-night contemplation.
A Bold Assumption
Of course, by discussing the "price" of "creativity," I am making the daring assumption that creativity has value.
I'd like to begin by defining each terms, thus we have a tendency to apprehend precisely what we have a tendency to're talking regarding when we begin to converse about the worth of creativity.
Dictionary.com defines worth as, among alternative meanings:
"- Price in usefulness or importance to the possessor; utility or merit: the value of an education. - Precise which means or import, as of a word."
I like the idea of creativity because the precise which means of something, but what we're extremely involved with is that creativity has worth in terms of being helpful or important to its "owner."
Therefore what is creativity? Once more, pulling up Dictionary.com:
I found three definitions, and all of them are helpful in this context:
"1. Having the flexibility or power to create: Kith and kin are inventive animals. 2. Productive; creating. 3. Characterized by originality and expressiveness; imaginative: creative writing."
I'm visiting use the third definition, "characterized by originality and expressiveness."
Therefore when we talk about the "price of creativity," what we have a tendency to're saying is that it's helpful or vital to be able to suppose and manufacture with originality and expressiveness.
The Monetary Value of Creativity
However I want to digress for an instant and talk concerning the monetary price of creativity, that can additionally be very important. Inventive individuals, and even those people who do not think of themselves as artistic but do have inventive thoughts, have to form a living.
How will creativity have monetary worth, apart from the apparent things like rock stars and bestselling authors?
There are several things to consider here. The primary is that a lot of individuals make a living, sometimes a very sensible living, doing creative work without reaching the status of movie idols. A number of those people are writers, some are graphic designers, some are lighting technicians….
However other than those individuals doing clearly creative work for a living, most people who are happy and successful in their jobs are using creativity to form a living. They may be auto mechanics who have a special ear for that knock within the engine, or CEOs who are significantly astute with numbers and appear to possess a knack for understanding complicated figures.
No matter their official job, they're using creativity on the task as a result of they're using originality and expressiveness in their jobs.
