1. Raising your awareness:
The most powerful method to breaking bad habits is to realize that the habit is bad. You need to raise your awareness to give up your habits. They complain that they ate very little, but could not lose weight and they came to the conclusion that the reason for their failure was genetic. 2. Find a substitute:
You can easily break a habit by replacing it with a new habit. Instead of simply deciding to stop eating junk foods, you can plan to eat fresh fruits and salads. Using substitutes for breaking habits is the right method that can offer long-lasting results.
3. Changing the environment:
Most of the habit changing therapists believe that placing yourself in an environment that promotes your new good habit is the most powerful method to break a bad habit. A life altering or improving change requires a good support system. Placing yourself in the right place at the right time can really enhance the quality of your life. On the other hand, if your environment feeds your habit, you cannot give it up easily. You can try to isolate yourself from people who have the same habits.
4. Write down your goals:
It is worth to write down your goals clearly on a piece of paper. You can stick it in visible places, like on the fridge or on the bedroom door. Seeing it day after day helps you to give up a bad habit.
5.Seek the help of others:
If you find it hard to break your habit, you need to seek the help of others who are willing to help you and have the power to make you give up your habit. For instance, you can ask your friend to pinch you, whenever he sees you smoking.
6. Relaxation methods:
You may find it difficult to combat the urges, on your effort to break habit. It is therefore advisable to learn some relaxation methods. Breathing slowly and rhythmically can help to release the tension. You can also try Pranayama or meditation techniques to cope up with the stress of giving up a habit.
Breaking bad habits requires a strong support network, and the right resources. You need to put your mind and body in the proper space in order to be successful.
