When writing children's books, starting the process of writing is definitely one of the hardest steps in the whole creative process. You will have undoubtably satisfied your self that your concept for a book is certainly a winner, and now you simply have to translate that inspiration into reality. But to be able to accomplish that you will actually have to write it! This is where you typically invent numerous reasons for not starting it "right at the moment".
So, what's the easiest way to go about it? Well, here are a handful of thoughts to assist you in getting started.
1. Identify what's stopping you making a start.
Take a few moments and consider this. Make a list. Is it Work commitments? Family commitments? Social commitments? Maybe you're surrounded by distractions, or possibly you simply cannot keep motivated?
There is one easy method to address this - lock yourself away. This is a crucial approach. Block out at least 3 hours of your time and let everyone understand you can't be interrupted. Then remove all types of interruption - turn off your mobile, your house phone, your e-mail and anything else which may interrupt you.
Writing children's books necessitates dedication and the most important factor you'll be able to commit is your time. If you expect your kid's book to develop into a reality you need to do this.
2. Have a plan
Set yourself some goals. Say to your self 'This week I will finalize the outline for my book.' This will likely seem daunting, however when you commit yourself to doing it you will be delighted with yourself once it comes true. However don't stop there, make sure that you now set another definite goal, and have a series of additional targets either written down (preferably), or at least, in mind.
3. Keep a diary of achievement
On a daily basis write a brief sentence saying what you've achieved, then you will have a physical record in your hands and verification that you are truly making progress. Read through your diary at frequent intervals, particularly in case you are discovering it difficult to keep focused.
4. If all else fails
When you just can't get started or are suffering from writer's block there could be one method that can be of assistance. Just write! Get a blank piece of paper on your desk and just begin writing - anything. It might be gibberish to start with but it's going to begin the creative process and you'll be amazed how quickly your writing becomes focused and your children's book will get started.
Hopefully this article will have imparted a few concepts and inspiration for starting that much anticipated book.
I wish you every success with your future career as a children's book writer.
