The consistent commitment by the officers in providing service to the road users is highly commendable. Pakistan Motorway Police have indeed introduced a new approach towards policing people friendly. As a result, the Motorway Police can prominently take pride that this force is comparable to any user friendly and efficient police force in the world in terms of professionalism. Ironically NHA & Motorway Police Pakistan has been declared as the only corruption free department of the country, which serves as a role model for other organizations.
The Motorway Police have shown us an excellent performance during the last eleven years and could be a role model for other departments. But the only thing for us is how to maintain this standard. Recently The Motorway Police has taken a serious notice of major violations of traffic rules by the Excise Police at different places on National Highway.
This strict action was taken against the officials of excise department police, when they ignored the strict warnings of the motorway police, as they were parking heavy vehicles on the no parking zones at the different spots of the NHA in Sindh. Moreover this practice was continued by the excise department.
Even the excise department police was repeatedly asked not to violate the motorway regulations, and not to stop vehicles at the no parking/high speed zones on the highway. But warnings were ignored as the Director Excise with some other offers with armed guards reached near Sakrand and continued the same practice.
According to the DIG Motorway Police, several complaints had been received from the motorway commuters regarding this issue. Several accidents on the highway had been occurred due to the blockade of the road by excise department. The more shocking thing was the arrival of Director Exercise with some 30 men who reached the check point and again the rules were violated. When the DIG contacted the secretary excise he realized his mistake.
Excise department was asked to write to NHA which would deficiently propose some place for checking. Because motorway police have no objection on monitoring of the vehicles at any place on the motorway as Pakistan Motorway Police is responsible for the safety of commuters. Only 4 or 5 policemen in uniform with torches could not stop vehicles at different places on highways.
The Motorway Police Pakistan was ready to provide all support to the excise and taxation department for checking of vehicles at toll plazas. But if this practice continued, the matter would be taken up with the chief secretary Sindh for action, he added.
The Director Excise and said that the Motorway Police stopped them from checking vehicles which was against the law. He said that they had recovered 200 maunds of charas, 23 kilograms of heroine, 325 bottles of imported liquor, arms and ammunition and arrested 30 people from check post.
Later DSP Motorways said that parking of vehicles by the excise police was not only causing hurdle in smooth running of highway traffic but also a number of accidents had been reported due to regular practice and many people had also lost their lives.
