Mo Bradley consumer advocate advises on how to save money and side step rip offs.

You know how you get spam email offering you a free cruise and you just realize it’s a hoax. Well here is a free cruise of your choice that you can get and it is in actual fact what it says. I know because I have tried it for myself, and I am going to tell you exactly how to go about getting one for yourself.

I guess you have all heard of Skymiles, which gives you a free flight as soon as you accumulate a specific amount of points. No scam there, right? Now there is a new system which is called Seamiles and is offered by Chase Bank Visa or Carnival Seamiles offered by Barclays US credit cards. The two techniques work more or less the same and you can make your mind up for yourself which one works best for you. See the links to the sites below in my recource box. The card is free and the annual fee is zero and you get 5,000 seamiles the first time you use the card. After that you get one seamile for every Dollar you spend.

The system works this way. A free cruise is constantly for two basically because two people share a cabin on any cruise and the packages come for two people at a time. Once you have a batch of points you can swap them for an assortment of cruises and the number of points are determined by the trip you elect, the number of days, and the time of the year that you make your mind up to go. You are not limited to certain times and certain routes. The more premium the cruise elected the more points are mandatory. I had a look at the available cruise choices and you can get a very nice trip for two to the Caribbean for only 60,000 points. I am saving my points for a trip to Alaska, which needs 138,000 points for two people. If you use your card for all and any daily expenses you can very swiftly accumulate enough points.

Know this much about the free cruise. You do have to pay the tips as this is an elective matter. Normally the cruise line will indicate that you pay $10 per day per person in your party and then there is no tipping onboard. The tips are distributed between cabin staff and deck and restaurant staff. It’s not much to pay, but check that aspect with the cruise line of your choice. Also any liquor and other gift purchases on board are not incorporated and can hurriedly cost you a small fortune if you are not cautious. Meals come with fruit drinks, tea and coffee, milk and chocolate milk and are at no cost on Carnival but On the Princess line they only present sweet tea, hot tea, coffee and ice water. Soda like Coke or Pepsi are not free, but trust me you can live without that for a week, or you can find that at any port of call and store in your cabin which has a little refrigerator.
Beware of stewards that go all over the cruise ship deck offering tall exotic looking drinks, seemingly for no cost, but beware! Those drinks are not free. The cruise line will bill your balance at $7 a pop. If you do not mind paying that much, hey knock yourself out, at least you will not be driving on the road for the next few days.Happy sailing!
