For a person that is considered extremely overweight, weight loss should be the highest priority. It's easy to brush off small health issues and tell yourself that you feel okay. While you might not feel like you're at risk for serious health problems, many weight related diseases show few symptoms in the beginning. Because an extremely overweight person has a higher risk of potentially deadly diseases, removing weight as soon as possible can be critical.
One is generally classified as overweight at 100 pounds or more overweight, though they can weigh less. For determining m extreme obesity, it's not the just the amount of weight that they are carrying as it is the weight related health problems that determine the person's diagnosis.
Some doctors consider remaining extremely overweight to be such a grave and urgent health problem that they feel outweighs the risk of surgery and urge their morbidly overweight patients to choose a surgical option. The types of weight loss surgery are referred to as gastric bypass, lap band surgery, or stomach stapling. Surgery often involves portioning off a part of the stomach to reduce the holding capacity.
Years ago, the procedure was referred to as stomach stapling, but now it is often today referred to as gastric bypass. This is because the stomach is made smaller and a diversion is created from that smaller stomach to the intestine.
The advances in gastric bypass surgery have now made it reversible, so that the individual doesn't have to go through life always only able to consume an ounce of food in a sitting. But it's still considered major surgery, carrying with it the risks of any other major surgery. The risks are even greater for the extremely overweight because it's more difficult to heal and recover when one is that unhealthy.
Some physicians prescribe alternatives such as liquid diets to encourage a rapid reduction in weight. Liquid diets are often unhealthy, but the diets that doctors prescribe and monitor do provide proper nourishment.
The most obvious advantage of a liquid diet is that it promotes rapid and dramatic weight loss. Some medical practitioners feel that this is necessary to address severe health issues such as extremely high blood sugar, and/or cholesterol and triglyceride levels that may be hovering in the danger zone.
It will also provide quicker relief for pressure and pain in the joints.
Certainly, the safest and most often recommended way to lose weight is by eating appropriate portions of healthy foods and exercise. An overweight person that doesn't want to follow a liquid diet or undergo surgery has that option.
A low-carbohydrate or good carbohydrate diet coupled with limited caloric intake is an ideal weight loss solution for both the overweight and diabetics. With stabile blood sugar levels, overall health leans toward improvement while making it far simpler for someone to lose weight.
When exercises is added, even starting at moderate levels, then weight loss and improvements in health can happen rapidly. Of course, the extremely overweight person will take longer to remove the excess weight. However, by using the tools of regular exercise combined with a healthy diet, achieving a normal weight and becoming healthier are attainable.
