Search engine optimization is probably one of the biggest talk in the world of internet marketing. Everyone wants to master at it but as those who have already mastered it are trying to make big bucks from selling SEO software and courses. You don’t need me to give a list of the 1001 courses available on the internet “proven” to make you a so-called SEO expert. God knows how many of them are genuine courses to help people and how many of them actually works.
In my opinion, search engine optimization can be divided into on-page and off-page optimization. And among the two of them, off page optimization is the most important. For the purpose of this article, I will explain some essential on-page search engine optimization tips and how to get the most of it for your website.
First Things First, Your Title
Every single website on the internet has a title to it. If you were to go to Google’s website, it will show as Google as the title on the top of your browser. If you go to Wikipedia, it will show up as Wikipedia as the title. This sort of guides the search engines and your visitors to know what your website is all about. The point I’m making here is that you must not underestimate the importance of your website title. Say if you want to rank for a keyword that says, “Golfing Tips For Beginners”, you would want to put that as your title, so add that in your title tag! Whatever your keyword that you choose to rank with, it is best to put that as the title.
This gives search engines an idea about what your website is all about. If you choose to rank for 2 keyword phrases you can choose to add the separator “|”. In the above example you can simply put it as “Golfing Tips For Beginners | How to Play Golf” in your title tags.
Make Use of Your H1 Tags
If you don’t know what a H1 tag is, you might be forgiven if you are rather new to HTML. H1 tags allow you to add headline titles to your website. This is the first thing that search engine spiders will read when it comes to the content of your website. Adding keywords to this H1 tag gives an idea what your website is all about. Make sure you optimize this correctly.
Add Keywords to Your Website Content
Choose any keyword or keywords and add them to your website. You might want to do a little more research on this before adding keywords to your website so do a little research with any keyword tool. It is important to remember that keyword stuffing your website is bad and so don’t do it! And you also would not want to optimize just one keyword phrase. Optimize for several of them but remember not to overdo it. The recommended keyword density is about 2-4%.
If you don’t think keyword stuffing is bad then try imagining yourself talking to someone who keyword stuffs his entire conversation with you. Would you even want to have a conversation with him? Let alone continue talking to him.
Keyword Phrases in the First Paragraph
You might have heard of this. Adding keyword phrases to the beginning part of your website ensures that search engines look at that first couple of sentences or paragraphs rather than content placed at the bottom. The same thing applies to articles. Even if you are adding author bio with links to your website or blog at the bottom of your articles, search engines don’t give so much weight to that compared to things at the first few paragraphs of your article.
Optimize Your Anchor Texts
Anchor texts are actually link texts placed in your website. Its really a technical term for links but essentially the meaning is the same. You must not minimize the importance of anchor texts because they have important search engine optimization implications on your website. For example, you want to link to your blog from your main page. You would not want to call it as “Blog” but instead add a keyword phrase to it like say “Network Marketing Blog” or “Weight Lost tips Blog”.
These 5 tips are an essential part of SEO for your website. Bear this in mind and you won’t go wrong with the search engines.
Sincerely,

Bryan Wong YH
