Can we consider poster printing as a form of art and science? Well, when you print posters, you employ creative visual techniques to make it look attractive. You use your artistic skills in conceptualizing and designing the material. On the other hand, there are scientific considerations when you produce your posters. First, you have to check on the societal context and review on the psychological impact and relevance of the poster. These points are evidence that poster printing is both art and science.
Other than being aware of this characteristic of print posters, you also need to recognize common layouts that are effective in communicating with your target customers. There are three types of posters that are being utilized in the advertisement industry today. They are the 'Wanted Poster', 'Streamer Poster', 'Framing Poster' and 'Column/Row Poster'.
The Wanted Poster is one of the best layouts in poster printing. It is also very common that most of the designs of posters today are similar and patterned after it. It is designed in such a way that the title remains on the top of the poster, the main image is placed at the center and the other information are located at the bottom part. I said that it is one of the best layouts because its design makes it easily noticeable and readable. The header immediately attracts the attention of the public. It is seemingly shouting the word ‘Wanted’ that the reader will directly read the title and then due to curiosity, look at the middle part of the poster and finally, take time to read the supporting details. When this happens, the poster has already fulfilled its purpose.
On the other hand, the Streamer Poster places all the necessary information in the center column of the paper. The title and supporting details are stacked in the middle, which allows the reader to concentrate on all the information printed in the poster. Remember that it is a natural tendency of man to look upwards and downwards as he or she look on something. The layout of text details will keep the attention of the audience.
The Framing Poster uses designs that could frame or box the images and texts in the middle. These designs can be persons, plants or borders. These makes the reader focused on the center image and text of the poster because this type of layout highlights the middle portion.
Finally, you use the Column/Row Poster when you intend to arrive at an informative poster for scientific, academic and awareness purposes. This is the best method to use if you want to fill your poster with as much information as possible. The text and images are arranged into rows or columns to provide an easier means of reading for the public.
