The Red Violin: This multi-episode film follows the destiny of a hexed violin from 17th-century Italy to 18th century Vienna, 19th century England, 20th-century China and present day Montreal. The tales are mainly downbeat and or aggravating, and the finish up part with appraiser Jackson is difficult to swallow. Colorful locales and enthralling premises sustain limited interest all the way through. Sidewalk Stories: Alluring, Chaplinesque fantasy that, in its own humble way, boldly remarks on the plight of the destitute in America. Lane stars as a destitute gentleman battling for existence on the roads of Greenwich Village who finds himself caring for a small child whose father has been stabbed by robbers. Down Periscope: Maverick naval officer is ultimately given the submarine he requests however it turns out to be a moth balled ruin with a crew that's not much better. The waitress (Terry Moore) seems to be spending most of her time fending off the lecherous advances of almost all her co-stars, but in fact she is trying to stop nuclear secrets from leaving the country. This is positively a one of a kind film, with most of the action taking place on a lone shabby set. Cast includes Terry Moore, Frank Lovejoy, Lee Marvin, Keenan Wynn, and Whit Bissell. Say One for Me: Bing plays a Broadway pastor who gets mixed up with a chorus girl (Debbie) and a Television charity show. This film is horribly contrived with no memorable music.
